Hi Erik,

Your guide will give you advice on kit, but in terms of layers, I had merino ice-breakers for top and bottom base layer, microfleece top, trekking trousers and light weight waterproofs. Leaving the hut at 3am for the ascent, it was -5C but I was warm enough as long as we kept moving. I also took a lightweight down jacket for emergencies (good for keeping warm in the huts too) and balaclava.

It really is awesome (in every sense) to reach the top - I hope you make it. Good luck!

Hi Ben

Great site and thanks for the advice. I too am climbing in September and am curious about temperatures up there. What sort of layers did you bring and what would you recommend? We are going with a guide and will be staying in mountain huts so we wont be camping out overnight or anything like that. Cheers, Erik

Best advice is get as fit as you can, book a couple of weeks if you can as a precaution for bad weather ... and know your limits! Good luck!

A successful and very enjoyable whisky evening! Seven of us tasted a range of single malts including Macallan, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Cragganmore, Balvenie, Ardbeg, Laphroaig and a cask strength Caol Ila!

Watch this space for the next one!
